Space Transport Corp. aerospace engineers on Thursday successfully tested the control thrusters that will steer their Rubicon rocket during launch, now planned for Sunday afternoon in Queets.
Space Transport president Phillip Storm and vice president Eric Meier were close to fully assembling the rocket, which now has two of its seven engines loaded with solid rocket fuel, at their Forks plant.
The rocket’s drogue chute, which will stabilize the rocket on its descent back to Earth from a low test altitude of 20,000 feet, was also successfully tested at 60 mph on the Forks Municipal Airport runway, Meier said.
The rocket is planned to splash down in the Pacific two to three miles from the coast, and be recovered by boat.
The pair also plans to launch a three-stage, smaller-scale rocket from Lake Wentworth on Saturday.
