Quillayute Valley School District Superintendent Frank Walter confirmed late Tuesday that the district will lay off nine certified teachers in an effort to balance the district’s fiscal 2002-2003 budget.
Walter said the following teachers will be layed off at the end of the school year:
Steven Gray, kindergarten; Julie Gibbs, first-grade; Cari Rohrer, third-grade; Vertis Lewis, fourth-grade; Aaron Roddis, sixth-grade; and Robbie King, Brenda King, Andrew Peterson and Brian Hollats, all high school teachers.
Lois Granum’s position as an elementary and middle school music teacher will be reduced to part-time, Walter said.
The cuts mean a savings of $438,720 to the district.
