FORKS — After several months of debate and discussion, Mayor Nedra Reed believes the city and Quillayute Prairie residents are close to reaching a compromise on proposed land use rules for Quillayute Airport.
“The tension is still there,” Reed said Friday in an interview at City Hall. “I’m hoping we’re reaching a point of resolution.”
Last month in a response to a proposal from Reed, the City Council agreed to leave a boundary between the airport and the primary residential area for 10 years, preventing the construction of hangars or other buildings close to people’s property.
The council also approved zoning proposals that would remove any prohibition against residential uses in identified zones.
Reed said she will recommend during a City Council meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday that the council incorporate its ideas with proposals from the city-appointed Quillayute Airport Advisory Committee and the Quillayute Airport Oversight Committee, comprising mostly airport-area residents, and forward them to Clallam County for review.
Monday’s meeting at City Hall, 500 E. Division St., will also serve as the last public hearing on the airport land-use plan.
