FORKS — Police are awaiting results of an autopsy to identify the cause of death of a man found Monday afternoon in a creek near downtown.
Thick mud on the body prevented officials from identifying the man’s physical characteristics or identity at the scene, Forks Police Chief Mike Powell said Tuesday.
But he said he does not believe the man’s death was foul play.
“There were no signs of obvious trauma,” Powell said.
The body also does not appear to match descriptions of any missing persons on file with Forks police or the Clallam County Sheriff’s Department, Powell said.
Five friends discovered the body at about 5 p.m. Monday in the woods at the west end of Forks Sand and Gravel property, about 200 yards from the end of West Division Street.
