Forks Peninsula College campus offers adults chance to earn high school diploma

FORKS — Classes will begin Monday in Forks for residents interested in earning their high school diploma or a general educational development (GED) certificate, or simply brushing up on skills.

Peninsula College’s HS21+ program offers adult learners the opportunity to earn their high school diploma in as little as 10 weeks. Through the Prior Learning Credit feature, students have the potential to use the knowledge they have acquired outside the classroom to earn high school credits.

Classes will run Mondays through Wednesdays, July 3 through Aug. 31, at 481 S. Forks Ave.

In-person registration is scheduled for July 3 at the Forks campus at 481 S. Forks Ave.

The program is offered for $25 per quarter. Financial aid is available.

To receive credit for prior learning, students work one-on-one with an instructor to develop an essay in which they document the skills and knowledge they have gained through work and life experience.

Credits are awarded upon completion and instructor review of the essay.

Created with working adults and parents in mind, the program offers a number of classes online, allowing students to complete work according to their own schedule at home.

For those who learn better in a classroom, the program also allows students a face-to-face instruction option.

A personalized academic plan ensures students will take the necessary courses and move through the program efficiently.

Online courses include U.S. history, fine art, Washington state history, science, contemporary world problems, English, prior learning and a variety of electives.
