FORKS – A new senior center is slated to begin construction in March, Mayor Nedra Reed says.
The building, which will also house community functions and office space, will serve as the new home for the senior center, Reed said.
The center, which will cover between 6,000 square feet and 7,000 square feet, will be constructed in a lot adjacent to two-year-old pool building, which has been shuttered since voters failed twin tax levy ballot measures last fall.
Once completed, the senior center’s operation could be handed over to the Quillayute Valley Park and Recreation District, Reed said.
“The city has never planned on managing the day-to-day operations of the center,” she said.
