FORKS — The first ice-related wreck of the season on U.S. Highway 101 on the North Olympic Peninsula left the driver uninjured.
Alfredo Dominguez, 51, drove away from the crash on Highway 101 near Forks on Thursday. He was traveling alone, and no other vehicle was involved.
It was the season’s first highway wreck caused by ice in Clallam or Jefferson counties, said Trooper Krista Hedstrom, State Patrol spokeswoman.
Dominguez was traveling north when he hit a patch of ice and started to fishtail shortly after 7:30 a.m., Hedstrom said.
“Then he went into a ditch and rolled on the driver’s side,” she said. “The driver’s side mirror broke off, and he had a small dent in the fender. He was not injured.”
The 2005 Ford Ranger was pulled right-side up by a tow truck.
Dominguez, who was wearing his seat belt at the time of the wreck, was cited for driving too fast for conditions, Hedstrom said.
The State Patrol will begin posting public safety message about safe winter driving next week, Hedstrom added.
