Forks man gets 5 years for heroin possession, intent to sell

PORT ANGELES — A 28-year-old Forks man has been sentenced to five years in prison for possession of heroin with intent to deliver.

John Planck Robinson pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced last Friday, Clallam County Superior Court records show.

Single counts of possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, possession of an illegal firearm and two counts of second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm were dismissed as part of a negotiated plea agreement.

Robinson was arrested June 6 by state Department of Corrections officers and the Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team, Detective Sgt. John Keegan said.

He was found sleeping in a storage unit off Larch Avenue east of Port Angeles, Keegan said.

At the time of his arrest, Robinson was found to be in possession of 11.1 grams of heroin, 6.4 grams of meth, a fully automatic rifle, a .40-caliber handgun and “items consistent with the sales of controlled substances,” Keegan said in a Wednesday news release.

Robinson, who had been on DOC supervision for a previous conviction, was considered an escapee for failing to report to Corrections on June 1, according to the affidavit for probable cause.

An OPNET surveillance team helped locate Robinson in the storage unit, according to court papers.

After waiving his Miranda rights, Robinson told investigators that he had purchased the assault rifle with 1 ounce of methamphetamine, found the handgun and that he had been selling drugs for profit, according to Keegan’s arrest report.

Robinson told investigators that he had planned to move to Arizona the day after his arrest, court papers said.

Robinson will be be required to serve one year of community custody after his release, Keegan said. He was also ordered to pay $1,300 in court fees and law enforcement fines.

Robinson was being held Thursday at the Washington Corrections Center near Shelton.
