FORKS — After years of leaking, Forks Fire Hall’s bothersome roof is being replaced.
In place of the flat roof, a pitched roof with metal sheeting will be installed, said Phil Arbeiter, chief for Clallam County Fire District 1.
“This is going to save us a whole lot of headaches in the future,” Arbeiter said.
“Every time it used to snow we’d have to climb up there and shovel the snow off.”
The Fire Hall, 11 Spartan Ave., was built in the late 1970s by the city of Forks and owned by the municipality until earlier this year when the property was transferred to the Fire District for $1, said Rod Fleck, the city’s city attorney/planner.
The Fire District rented the Fire Hall for decades from the city for about $1 a year.
However, the Fire Hall’s roof turned out to be problematic because of constant leaks, which led fire officials to repeatedly ask the city to fix those problems over the last several months.
