FORKS – Hey, Grinch, you missed us!
If anything could be salvaged from the charred rubble of the state Department of Social and Health Services office, it was this consoling fact:
Toys for children who’ve been placed in foster homes hadn’t been delivered to the building before fire broke out there Friday morning.
“The fortunate thing for us is, our gifts for foster kids hadn’t arrived,” Tom Stokes, area administrator for the DSHS Children’s Administration, said Wednesday.
The fire-ravaged building is at Fifth Avenue and Bogachiel Way.
Meanwhile, employees had telephones and computers up and running Wednesday in their temporary quarters in the city-owned ICN building, 71 N. Spartan Ave.
“And we got our desks today,” Stokes said, “so we’re getting back to normal.
“We’re open for business, and so is the welfare office. We’re fully functional at this point.”
