FORKS — The Forks Elks Club will remain open through Dec. 31 and all parties will go on as scheduled, Exalted Ruler Ilene Rogers said Saturday afternoon.
A community meeting to appeal for more volunteers and officers so the club can remain open next year is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Forks Elks Lodge, 941 Merchant Road.
“We sent letters to all our members asking for community support. We need more members. We need volunteers and support, not the same corps of people,” Rogers said.
“We want to make a go of it, because Forks has no other place for hosting large events. We need to show we can have a full slate of officers. We need community support, even if you aren’t an Elks member,” she said.
All parties scheduled through the end of December will continue, Rogers said.
The bar will operate during those events but not at other times, she said.
The closure of the Forks Elks Lodge 2524, which opened in March 1975, was announced last week because of declining membership.
The news came in a letter to the editor from Past Exalted Ruler George McCoy that appeared in the Dec. 10 issue of the weekly Forks Forum.
