FORKS — With Clallam County commissioners aligned in favor of county economic development dollars to help build a long-planned aquatic center in Forks, the indoor pool complex is close to a call for construction bids.
“This is a big boost to get it out to bid,” Barb Gronseth, Quillayute Valley Parks and Recreation District board chairwoman, said Wednesday.
Gronseth and a contingent of county West End leaders on Monday went before the three county commissioners, requesting a $240,000 no-interest loan and $160,000 grant through the Clallam County Opportunity Fund.
The commissioners have the statutory power to approve Opportunity Fund grants and loans for building public facilities that promote economic development.
“The people with parks and recreation have been wanting this project for 25 years, so it’s a dream come true,” Gronseth said during the commissioners’ work session Monday.
Gronseth, Forks Mayor Nedra Reed, Dan Leinan, city clerk-treasurer, and Sandra Carter, Clallam Bay Corrections Center superintendent, were among the group of West End leaders who formally requested Clallam County Opportunity Funds to help finance the project.
