Forks already preparing for latest ‘Twilight’ movie release — in March

FORKS — Forks is already revving up for the March 20 release of the DVD of “The Twilight Saga: New Moon.”

The DVD version of the movie, which hit theaters in November, will be released in style at 12:01 a.m. that day after festivities the night before.

The movie, based on the eponymous book, is a sequel to “Twilight,” which was based on the first book in a four-novel series set in Forks written by Stephenie Meyer.

The series — Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn — tells about a Forks teenager, Bella Swan, who falls hard for enigmatic vampire Edward Cullen.

In New Moon, Edward abandons Bella to protect her from his — and his family’s — vampiric tendencies. During his absence she bonds with Jacob Black, who turns out to be a werewolf — one of the enemies of vampires.

Also released with the DVD special editions will be a documentary, “Twilight in Forks,” which details the impacts of the movies on the town. It also includes interviews with a host of locals.

Last year’s midnight release party of the DVD of “Twilight,” drew more than 600 fans who circled the block waiting to get the DVD at Dazzled by Twilight at 61 N. Forks Ave.

The store is planning more activities this year, said owner Annette Root, whose store also has a branch in Port Angeles.

Volturi Vampire Ball

Planned so far is a Volturi Vampire Ball that will kick off at 8 p.m. Friday, March 19, she said.

“It will be no cost to get in,” she said.

The ball will be at the Twilight Lounge, which is in the old Vagabond Restaurant building, 81 N. Forks Ave.

“I do think people should dress up,” Root said. “I’m going to wear a ball gown.

“If you missed prom, or if you just want to, this can be an awesome chance to have a great time.”

Root said that pre-orders for the DVD will be accepted soon.

Twilight Central

Charlene Leppell, owner of Leppell’s Flowers at 130 S. Spartan Ave. — which also goes by Twilight Central — said her store also will host a midnight release of the DVD.

In addition to the special edition DVD, she will offer the documentary by itself for those who might not want to watch the “New Moon” movie, but who are curious about what their friends and neighbors have said to Seattle documentary makers York Baur and Jason Brown.

“I actually just talked to the company, and I heard that I’m actually in the documentary quite a bit,” Leppell said.

She said that in addition to festivities the night of the release on Saturday, March 20, she’ll also have activities during the day.

“We’ll have something special going on,” she said.

“But it is a secret for now.”

The third movie, “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” is set to be released June 30.

In addition to the regular theater release, it also will be shown on IMAX screens, Summit Entertainment recently announced.

A movie adaptation of the fourth book, Breaking Dawn, has not been announced.

None of the filming in any of the movies has taken place on the North Olympic Peninsula.
