PORT LUDLOW — Weekend passenger ferry excursions from Port Townsend to Seattle might be a reality this fall.
Clipper Navigation Inc., the company that owns the Victoria Clipper vessels that run between Seattle and British Columbia, plans to start service it believes would be popular with local residents as well as tourists.
Passenger service between Kingston and Seattle should begin Sept. 13, Clipper Navigation Vice President and General Manager Darrell E. Bryan told the Port Ludlow Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday.
The 35-minute Aqua Express ferry trip from Kingston will run Monday through Friday. There will initially be three morning and three evening runs, Bryan said.
Weekends will be left free for special trips aboard the ferry — like from Port Townsend to Seattle and back, Bryan said.
If Clipper Navigation offers weekend runs between Port Townsend and Seattle, it would be the second passenger ferry service added this year from the North Olympic Peninsula.
The Harmon family of Port Angeles plans to launch summer passenger service aboard its Victoria Express from Port Angeles to Friday Harbor beginning May 29. The Friday Harbor runs will continue on to Victoria.
The Harmons’ rechristened Victoria Express II will move into the Port Angeles-Victoria run.
In Port Townsend, Pete and Sherri Hanke’s P.S. Express will resume seasonal daily passenger service from Point Hudson in Port Townsend to Friday Harbor on April 29.
Their tour includes whale watching along the route.
