Flag Day will be celebrated in Port Townsend today with a flag raising ceremony that will also commemorate the completion of the Jefferson County Courthouse clock tower rehabilitation.
In addition, those who want to take drive south of the Hood Canal bridge in Port Ludlow can see a home with a special display of 13 flags for Flag Day.
The courthouse ceremony will be from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.
Invited are state Reps. Lynn Kessler, D-Hoquiam, and Kevin Van De Wege, D-Sequim, as well as state Historic Preservation Officer Allyson Brooks, who is expected to attend on behalf of Gov. Chris Gregoire.
A letter from U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks, D-Belfair, will be read at the ceremony hosted by the Jefferson County commissioners.
A marching band comprised of Jefferson County students will play during the ceremony.
A flag ceremony will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
A routine inspection in 1998 found deterioration of the 124-foot clock tower, which had tolled the hour since 1892.
Years of project development and fundraising ended with the work being completed over the last year.
