PORT TOWNSEND — Five Port Townsend men were arrested Thursday afternoon in connection with an early morning stabbing of a 26-eyar-old man at a local apartment complex.
The victim, Tomas Hezina, who police identified as a transient, was listed in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on Thursday night.
Port Townsend Police Chief Conner Daily said Hezina underwent emergency surgery Thursday afternoon for five stab wounds to the neck and upper chest.
Being held Thursday night in the Jefferson County jail and awaiting booking were Ryan Baker, 19; Ryan Hausenfluck, 19; Kelly Farfan, 20; James Hansen, 18; and Cameron Jevne, 19, according to Port Townsend Police.
Port Townsend Police officers Dan Huynh and Kyle Kinnan were first on the scene, where they found Hezina unconscious on the courtyard grass after the suspects had apparently fled the scene.
Sgt. Ed Green, who was overseeing the investigation at the scene Thursday, said Hezina was still unconscious at Harborview Thursday night.
Green said investigators are still trying to unravel what took place and who is responsible in connection with the stabbing.
Suspects found in Kitsap
Kitsap sheriff’s investigators arrested the five suspects Thursday afternoon after interviews led them to a north Kitsap County residence.
The suspects were taken into custody without incident and transported back to Jefferson County jail in Port Hadlock, investigators said.
Daily said witness interviews Thursday confirmed a confrontation between the five men and Hezina.
“It was an altercation over some money,” said Daily.
