JOYCE — Five people were injured Saturday in a two-vehicle collision on state Highway 112 west of Port Angeles, Clallam County Fire District No. 4 officials said.
A pickup truck was turning onto the highway from Freshwater Bay Road when it was struck in the intersection by another truck that was towing a boat at about 12:10 a.m., Fire District 4 Chief Alex Baker said.
All five occupants, whose identities were not available Saturday, were taken by ambulance to Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles. Three of the five required life support, district officials said in a news release.
Six agencies and 23 emergency responders were on scene.
Crew used hydraulic Jaws of Life to extricate two occupants. Two of the five were conscious and alert, Baker said.
Airlift to Harborview Medical Center was requested, but foggy conditions in Seattle prevented helicopter or fixed-wing aircraft from being deployed, district officials said.
All five occupants were adults or older teens, Baker said.
State Highway 112 was closed for about three hours after the crash.
Clallam County Fire District 4 was first on scene, followed immediately by Port Angeles-area District 2, the State Patrol, county Sheriff’s Office, state Department of Transportation and Olympic Ambulance, according to a news release.
“While this was a horrible event, it was a display of multiple agencies coming together to render aid to some people who really needed it at the time,” Baker said in a telephone interview.
“The agencies all worked together at a high level, and I want to thank everybody involved.”
