Five injured in state Highway 20 wreck near Discovery Bay

DISCOVERY BAY — Five people were hurt, one badly, after a diesel pickup truck hit a guardrail on state Highway 20, flipped over and landed on its side Tuesday.

Four people inside the truck suffered minor injuries in the 3:49 p.m. wreck, while a fifth — a 55-year-old woman — was thrown through the windshield and suffered head injuries, said Bill Beezley, East Jefferson Fire-Rescue spokesman.

She was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle while the other four were taken to Jefferson Healthcare hospital in Port Townsend, Beezley said.

None of those involved were identified because of privacy concerns, Beezley said.

The pickup was traveling north on Highway 20 near its intersection with Eaglemount Road when the driver lost control, struck the guardrail and then flipped over at the bottom of a bank, Beezley said.

Four of the five occupants climbed out of the wreck with help from a nearby state Department of Transportation road crew.

Beezley said he did not know which of the five was driving the truck.
