QUILCENE — A one-car crash on U.S. Highway 101 in which five were injured Sunday remained under investigation Monday, the State Patrol reported.
The 1995 Toyota Tercel destroyed about 50 feet of guardrail when it spun off the road early Sunday evening, the State Patrol reported Monday.
Troopers gave this account:
Darleen Vasenda, 21, of Port Hadlock was driving the Tercel north on Highway 101 when the road curved to the right and she apparently lost control.
The car spun, crossed the centerline and hit the guardrail on the southbound side of the highway.
The car finally stopped facing northbound on the southbound shoulder and was embedded in the guardrail.
Vasenda was wearing her seat belt and was treated at the scene for facial injuries, the State Patrol reported.
Passengers Maya-Anne McLaughlin, 13, of Port Hadlock and Joseph Rogers, 20, of Port Townsend, who were not wearing seat belts, had to be airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
McLaughlin suffered a broken arm and facial cuts and was reported in satisfactory condition Monday.
Rogers suffered chest injuries and a collapsed lung and remained in serious condition Monday night, a Harborview spokesperson said.
Two other passengers, Summer Peacock, 12, of Port Hadlock and Ryan Baker, 24, of Sequim, were taken to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton.
Peacock was not wearing a seat belt, but Baker was, troopers said.
Their conditions from Harrison officials were not available Monday night.
Vasenda was cited for speeding, the State Patrol said.
