SEQUIM — Pat Harwood of Port Angeles, a woman who said she “never wins anything,” won the drawing for a whiskey barrel jammed with $300 worth of bird feeders, birdseed and other goodies at last month’s record-breaking Nature Mart.
The drawing for the “bird-lover’s barrel” was part of the fifth annual Nature Mart holiday bazaar at the Dungeness River Audubon Center on Nov. 19.
The free event attracted more people than ever — nearly 500, organizer Julie Jackson noted.
The bake sale alone — made up of donated pies, coffee cakes and cookies — reaped $634 for the center, she said.
Nature Mart’s other offerings — handmade gloves, wreaths and other decorations, hot soup — also brought in more revenue than ever before, she said.
“We cleared over $4,500 — $1,500 more than last year,” Jackson said.
Harwood, ironically, had never visited the river center before, though she’s pedaled her bicycle on the nearby Olympic Discovery Trail.
The river center, which has educational displays, a gift shop, bird walks and other activities, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and from noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays in Railroad Bridge Park, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road, just northwest of Sequim.
