SEQUIM — Clallam County Fire District 3 has announced the graduation of four firefighters from the State Patrol’s fire academy in Snoqualmie.
Firefighter/EMT Madison Bowe, firefighter/EMT Nicole Simson, firefighter/EMT Matthew Aston and firefighter/paramedic Steve Oberly graduated from the academy with 26 other firefighters from across the state during a July 25 ceremony.
The graduates will begin a 12-month probationary period with the district.
The 12-week-long academy trains recruits in hose handling, forcible entry, search and rescue, structural firefighting, car fires, ladder deployment and hazardous materials, among other subjects.
Bowe received the Bulldog Award, which is by the academy’s instructors for the recruits that just won’t quit and show that determination to see the job done.
Bowe also was recognized for as a member of the academy’s First due Engine Company, an award for students with strengths in pump operations and hose handling techniques and who show consistent dedication, pride, integrity and teamwork.
Simson and Aston were recognized by the academy for their hard work as company officers providing for leadership and guidance on academy life.
Clallam County Fire District 3 provides emergency medical services, fire suppression and all-hazard mitigation to the communities of Gardiner, Diamond Point, Blyn, Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe, Happy Valley, Sequim, Dungeness, Texas Valley, Carlsborg, Agnew, Little Oklahoma, O’Brien Road, R Corner and all points in between.
