BRINNON – A 3,000-square-foot home in Brinnon burned to the ground Wednesday, while the resident watched in shock.
No one was injured in the raging fire that exploded a propane tank and set bullets pinging inside the structure.
About 25 firefighters from five departments fought the flames at 304164 U.S. Highway 101, about a mile north of Dosewallips Road, for about two hours before getting it under control enough that they knew it would not spread.
“This fire had a little bit of everything,” said Jim Boldt, Brinnon Fire Department public information officer.
The cause of the fire was unknown on Wednesday.
It started at about 10:50 a.m.
The billows of thick smoke across Highway 101 prompted the Department of Transportation to close both lanes between Tog Road and Seal Rock Road for about one hour.
A single lane of traffic, permitted by flaggers to alternate in both directions, had opened by 12:10 p.m. and both lanes were open by about 3 p.m.
