SEQUIM — Firefighters with Clallam County Fire District No. 3 knocked down a pair of fires that occurred in the Sequim area Thursday night and Friday morning, Assistant Chief Dan Orr said.
Fire crews encountered heavy smoke rising from a 24-foot trailer at 256832 U.S. Highway 101 and initiated an attack at about 8 p.m. Thursday.
The three people who lived in the trailer were not home.
They arrived when crews were still on scene.
“The trailer was a total loss and two beloved cats perished in the fire,” Orr said in a Friday press release.
“There was superficial damage to the exposures.”
Clallam County Public Utility District crews secured the power.
The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the residents.
No persons were injured.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation, Orr said.
Shortly after 5 a.m. Friday, District 3 firefighters responded to a possible structure fire in a large barn at 4620 Old Olympic Highway.
Crews found a full-sized pickup truck ablaze inside the barn.
The fire was burning from its engine compartment, Orr said.
District 3 crews quickly knocked down the fire, Orr said.
The barn sustained superficial damage.
“The initial cause appears to center around the vehicle’s block heater,” Orr said.
“More time will be spent today to narrow the cause and origin.”
