PORT ANGELES — A fire destroyed an unoccupied mobile home and a storage shed, and also damaged a nearby house east of Port Angeles on Tuesday.
A white and green mobile home at 43 Roll Inn Park Drive caught fire and was almost completely consumed by flames within a half-hour.
No one was injured, said Clallam County Fire District No. 2 Chief Sam Phillips, who added that no one home at the time of the fire.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation late Tuesday afternoon.
The renter of the trailer was still in the process of moving in, and had not yet been contacted regarding the fire, Phillips said.
An off-duty firefighter spotted smoke drifting from under the eaves of the mobile home’s roof and called 9-1-1 emergency dispatchers at 12:21 p.m. Tuesday, Phillips said.
Phillips said the firefighter was able to establish that there was no one in the trailer before engines arrived.
Flames spread to a nearby storage shed, where it destroyed some of the contents and burned about half of the building.
The siding and fence of an adjacent house was damaged.
The fire was under control by 1 p.m.
Fire District 2 responded with 11 firefighters, 1 fire engine, 1 fire tender, 1 medical unit, and two command vehicles.
Two Clallam County sheriff’s deputies assisted with traffic and crowd control.
