Fire District 3 responds to 65 calls during weekend

SEQUIM — Firefighters from Fire District 3 responded to a high volume of calls over the Fourth of July weekend.

Fire Chief Justin Grider reported the fire district answered 65 calls for service, which included a traffic collision, eight wildland fires — six caused by fireworks and two under investigation — two structure fires, four smoke investigations and/or burn complaints and 50 calls for emergency medical service.

Fire district officials also were on standby for the public fireworks display in Sequim, Grider said.

“We are grateful to report that there were no injuries to people or pets in these fire incidents,” Grider said in a statement. “This outcome would not have been possible without the relentless efforts of our Fire District 3 staff and with the invaluable support of our volunteer firefighters, who showed classic dedication when demand peaked.”

Grider also cited collaborative efforts and mutual aid partners, including East Jefferson Fire-Rescue, Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue, the Port Angeles Fire Department and the state Department of Natural Resources’ wildland team.

“The need for caution continues as we progress deeper into summer,” Grider said. “We urge everyone to adhere to the burn restrictions currently in place and continue to monitor for any changes that may come.

“Your cooperation is crucial in preventing further incidents and safeguarding our community.”
