FORKS — A fire that destroyed an abandoned home in Forks early Tuesday morning is under investigation as possible arson.
The house at 1190 Bogachiel Way caught fire at about 2 a.m. and was destroyed, said Clallam County Fire District No. 1 Chief Phil Arbeiter.
“It is, at this point, looking like an arson fire,” he said.
“We do not know how it was set or who might have done it.
“But it does appear that it was set on purpose.”
About 10 firefighters spent about two hours putting out the blaze.
Arbeiter said that the house has been vacant for about 15 years.
A smaller fire was put out a couple of years ago at the same location, he added.
The house of about 1,000 square feet was near the corner of Bogachiel Way and Page Road in Forks.
“I’m not sure at this point whether the [Clallam County Sheriff’s Department] will investigate or not,” Arbeiter said.
Arbeiter said that no power was hooked up to the all-wood structure.
“There is a lot of brush around the house, but it was never in big danger of catching fire,” Arbeiter said.
