PORT ANGELES – One house and several small outbuildings were destroyed by a structure fire that occurred on the 3900 block of Eden Valley Road.

Clallam County Fire District 2 (CCFD2) was dispatched to the fire on Tuesday around 5:32 p.m.

Clallam County Fire District 3 (CCFD3) and the Port Angeles Fire Department (PAFD) also responded with mutual aid.

When the first fire engine arrived on scene around 5:50 p.m., residents had evacuated and the fire had extended from the deck into the house.

Crews deployed hose lines to knock down the fire but faced a limited water supply.

Crews used five water tenders to shuttle water from the closest fire hydrant, 6.5 miles away.

Due to a limited water supply, crews focused on defensive measures to limit the spread of the fire beyond the house, but eventually the primary residence and several small outbuildings were completely destroyed by the fire.

Local residents assisted the fire district in extinguishing the fire by using an excavator to access burning materials.

Crews started clearing the scene shortly after 9:30 p.m. to restock and clean equipment.

In total, around 30 firefighters, five ambulances, five water tenders and four fire engines responded to the scene from CCFD2, CCFD3, Clallam County Fire District 4 and PAFD.

CCFD3 also provided a standby fire engine in Port Angeles to cover additional emergency calls. Several EMS calls in Port Angeles were handled by the PAFD, CCFD3 and Olympic Ambulance while the other resources were supporting the fire.

“This fire again highlights the great working relationship between all of the local fire agencies, to provide the best level of response we can,” the press release stated. “All the fire agencies worked seamlessly together because of prior joint training opportunities and familiarity with each other’s operations.”
