Fire burns home on Hidden Trails Road, Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — No one was injured when a modular home erupted in flames in the 500 block of Hidden Trails Road.

The Tuesday blaze was discovered by a friend of the owner who arrived on scene to care for animals at the residence, according to East Jefferson Fire-Rescue.

She noticed fire and smoke and called 9-1-1 and firefighters were called to the flames at 2:43 p.m.

“Hidden Trails is not far from Station 1-5, so firefighters were able to get there very fast,” said Leah Speser, spokeswoman for East Jefferson Fire-Rescue (EJFR).

“When firefighters arrived, they found the attic and roof on fire, and flames crawling up the side of the structure.”

Speser said a pet lizard found inside was safely removed. Ponies in a nearby field were moved a safe distance away from the activity as a precaution, although they were never in any danger.

Speser said about 3,500 gallons of water were used to extinguish the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

EJFR was assisted by units from Jefferson County Fire District No. 2, Jefferson County Fire District No. 5, Port Ludlow Fire and Rescue and Naval Magazine Indian Island Fire Department. Additionally, units from Poulsbo Fire Department and Clallam County Fire District No. 3 provided station coverage and emergency response during the fire.
