Finalists in search for Port Townsend, Chimacum schools’ superintendents to meet public

PORT TOWNSEND — The first of four finalists for Port Townsend or Chimacum school district superintendent was introduced to the public.

Dr. Scott Mauk, the principal at Edmonds Heights K-12 Alternative Learning Experience in the Edmonds School District, answered questions and was set to meet with school boards from both districts on Monday.

Kristie Lindholm is a second finalist for the Port Townsend superintendent position. She will be interviewed and introduced to the public via Zoom at 3 p.m. today.

The Port Townsend School Board will interview candidates in executive sessions at 4 p.m. today and Wednesday and at 6 p.m. Thursday, while the Chimacum School Board will also interview candidates in executive sessions at 6 p.m. Wednesday and at 4 p.m. Thursday.

The school boards will meet in a joint session at 7:30 a.m. Saturday to discuss and possibly select their preferred candidates. Three of the four are finalists are being considered separately for both districts, while the fourth is being considered just in Port Townsend.

During his Zoom introduction, Mauk said he is a big believer in experiential hands-on learning for kids. He said his first teaching experience was at Camp Parsons in Brinnon.

“I’m passionate about getting kids outside,” Mauk said.

Mauk worked in the South Whidbey School District for 17 years as a teacher, program director, athletic director and assistant principal prior to working in the Edmonds School District. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from Santa Clara University, a master’s in teaching from The Evergreen State College and a doctorate of education from Seattle Pacific University.

Lindholm is an area senior director in the Office of School Performance in Portland Public Schools, where she supervisors principals and oversees professional learning. She has been an educator for more than 30 years, working as a teacher, assistant principal and principal.

She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the UC-Irvine and a master’s of arts in educational administration from California State University-Northridge.

Each candidate will be introduced on Zoom between 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on the day of their interview. To view the introductions, go to us02web.zoom.us and enter meeting ID: 858 8653 5858.

The Port Townsend and Chimacum school boards have agreed to work collaboratively on their concurrent superintendent search processes. Each district will hire its own superintendent and plans to make its decision before the end of February.
