PORT TOWNSEND — With only today left for candidate filings, several local races have only one contender, though three candidates for a position on the Port of Port Townsend will force a primary.
On Thursday, Brad Clinefelter of Nordland filed for the port’s District 2 seat for a four-year term, to face declared candidates Peter G. Quinn and Bill Putney.
The top two vote-getters in the Aug. 6 primary will advance to the Nov. 5 general election.
Primary
For the primary the three candidates will appear on the ballots mailed to those living in the district while the entire county will vote for all positions in the general election.
For Position 3, Peter Hanke of Chimacum filed in opposition to incumbent Leif Erickson of Port Ludlow, for the four-year term.
On the Port Townsend City Council, one race is contested: the Position 1 race between incumbent Michelle Sandoval and challenger Bob Jautz.
Incumbent Catharine Robinson is unopposed in her bid for a four-year term for Position 2, while Position 5 candidate Pamela Adams also is unopposed.
Other recent filings:
■ Keith D. Meyer filed for Position 5 on the Quilcene School Board for a four-year at-large seat.
■ Kevin Miller filed for a four-year term on the Chimacum School Board, District 5.
■ Incumbent Quilcene Fire Commissioner Deborah Randall filed for a six-year term, Position 1.
■ Karl Springer filed for a four-year unexpired term for Position 1 on the Brinnon Cemetery District.
All candidates are unopposed.
Candidacy declaration
The declaration of candidacy can be filed in person at the county elections office on the first floor of the county courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St. in Port Townsend, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. today.
It also can be filed by printing out a declaration, available at a Jefferson County website devoted solely to aspiring candidates at http://tinyurl.com/coqejgx, and by mailing a completed declaration to the elections office at P.O. Box 563, Port Townsend, WA 98368.
Mailed declarations must be received by today.
