PORT ANGELES — No one was injured when a trailer at the Welcome Inn RV Park in Port Angeles burned Sunday evening.
The cause of the blaze remains undetermined.
When firefighters arrived shortly after 8:39 p.m. Sunday, the 30-foot fifth-wheel trailer was about 50 percent involved in flames, said Port Angeles Fire Department Assistant Chief Keith Bogues.
“It had been vacant for awhile was my understanding,” Bogues said. “There were no personal belongings in the trailer, and it looked like it had been abandoned.”
He said the power had been disconnected from the trailer and the fire did not pose a threat to other nearby buildings.
Officers from the Port Angeles Police Department evacuated the occupants of nearby trailers before firefighters arrived.
Bogues said the cause of the fire remained under investigation Monday and that it is unlikely firefighters will learn the cause unless someone comes forward with information.
Firefighters determined the fire started on the rear passenger side of the trailer and the door was locked and closed, he said, calling the fire suspicious.
“Unless someone comes forward and tells us something, it’s difficult to make a determination,” he said. “We’re pretty sure it wasn’t spontaneous combustion. There’s probably a human factor involved.”
Clallam Fire District No. 2 assisted in the call. In all, eight firefighters responded to the call.
