The MV Coho ferry will resound with the sound of traditional jazz during two sailings Saturday.
The Olympic Dixielanders jazz band will perform during the 90-minute crossing of the Strait of Juan de Fuca during the 2 p.m. sailing from Port Angeles and the 4 p.m. sailing from Victoria.
The performances of the music popular when the Coho was launched in December 1959 are to celebrate two jazz festivals that are scheduled this month.
The Victoria Hot Jazz Jubilee is scheduled Friday through Sunday in Sidney, British Columbia.
Jazz In The Olympics will pack Port Angeles with performances at four venues April 22-25.
The Olympic Dixielanders jazz band is the youth band for the Jazz In The Olympics Society.
In addition to the Coho sets, the band will open the Jazz in the Olympics gospel music hour at 9 a.m. Sunday, April 25 in the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
Members of the Olympic Dixielanders band are from Sequim and Port Angeles high schools.
They are Anna Prorock, keyboard; Peter Harker, drums; James Hofstetler, tuba; Cole Gibson, banjo and vocals; Michaela Rogers, trombone; Jessalyn Rogers, Molly Corner, Lindsey Moore, trumpet; CJ Urnes, tenor sax; Torrey Jakubcin, clarinet.
The band director is Signe Crawford.
