PORT ANGELES – A Missouri father of six who was driving a motor home that crashed on Tuesday has died.
Lonnie Owens, 51, of Fair Grove, Mo., died on Thursday in Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
He died of injuries sustained when the motor home, hurtling out of control down Mount Angeles Road, smashed into other vehicles and fell about 20 feet off Race Street into the Peabody Creek ravine.
His wife, Vickey Owens, 50, and his youngest daughter, Autumn, 14, remained in stable condition at Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles on Thursday.
They were not able to say good-bye to their husband and father.
The rest of the family – two daughters who recently had given birth – flew to Seattle on Wednesday afternoon and were on hand when his father died, Austin Owens, 22, told the Springfield News-Leader in Missouri.
Fifteen people were taken to OMC after the multiple vehicle crash; all but four were treated and discharged that evening.
Aaron Owens, 20, was discharged from OMC on Wednesday morning.
Austin and his brother Ashton Owens, 17, as well as a family friend, 20-year-old Kelly Johns of Springfield, Mo., were treated and discharged from OMC on Tuesday.
Austin told the News-Leader that his family wants his father to be remembered as a family man and a devout Christian.
“His number one priority was God and then family,” Austin told the newspaper.
“He always made time for us.”
