PORT TOWNSEND — A student at Grant Street Elementary is selling her little sister. Another student is selling her cat, while a classmate is selling her favorite stuffed animal.
“I’m not really selling it,” said kindergarten student Olivia Crecca, 6, who was working on a sales pitch for her pet cat T.C.
“It’s not for real.”
Crecca’s “for sale “sign informed prospective buyers that her cat was quite fat, an excellent snuggler and that her mother was allergic so she had to get rid of it.
“It’s an example of persuasive writing,” said Peter Braden, a Grant Street teacher who normally instructs students in the first grade.
But today was different.
Grant Street students took a day off from their regularly scheduled classes on Thursday to work on their writing and illustrating in a school-wide writing fair.
Braden helped organize the event as a way to celebrate the writing of all the students in the school.
“It’s a chance for the entire school to work on their writing and share their work with others,” Braden said.
“At the end of the day, when they go back to their classes, they can teach others the new skills.”
