EYE ON THE PENINSULA: Clallam to consider lodging tax applications

Meetings across the North Olympic Peninsula

Lodging tax fund applications, an annual Jefferson County parks tour and an interlocal agreement regarding the Safe Streets for All program will be before boards and commissions on the Peninsula next week.

Clallam County Commissioners

The three Clallam County commissioners will consider during their weekly work session Monday an interlocal agreement with Kitsap Public Health District, Jefferson Public Health and the state Department of Health regarding shared services if a local health officer position is vacant.

The commissioners’ work session, at 9 a.m. Monday, will preview items set for action at their formal meeting, which will start at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

• An agreement with the state’s Administrative Office of the Courts for a $16,000 grant to fund Living In Families Together court programs.

• An agreement with Washington Initiative for Supported Employment for up to $90,000 to provide training and technical assistance to support the implementation of the Washington State County Services for Working Age Adult Policy.

• Discussion regarding a request to hire a full-time, grant-funded employee for the Noxious Weeds Department.

• An agreement with the Clallam Conservation District for $60,000 to provide conservation planning and implementation.

• Discussion regarding a proposed land acquisition near Hoko River State Park by the state Parks and Recreation Commission.

• A resolution authorizing a one-time expenditure of $201,014 from the Hotel/Motel Tax Fund for approved 2025 lodging tax funding applications from Clallam County Public Works, $9,794; Fungi Festival, $21,000; Clallam Bay/Sekiu Visitors Center, $15,000; Feiro Marine Life Center, $30,220; Peninsula Trails Coalition, $10,000; Dungeness Crab Festival, $55,000; and Field Arts & Events Hall, $60,000.

• An amended agreement with Parks, Fair and Facilities to extend the completion date for a project funded with 2024 Lodging Tax funds.

• A discussion regarding whether Clallam County has the legal authority to impose a fee or assessment on private property within the boundaries of Olympic National Park or may only levy taxes on those properties.

• An update on the current legislative session.

• A resolution authorizing the usage of $2,510,765.24 in Local Assistance and Tribal Consistency Funds awarded by the American Rescue Plan Act for the assessor’s office, $597,440.85; the auditor’s office, $407,011.17; the treasurer, $166,992.34; non-departmental spending, $376,115,34; information technology, $304,209.29; human resources $86,375.88; geographic information systems, $78,350.97; and parks, fair and facilities, $494,269.40.

• A resolution authorizing usage of $85,810.40 in State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds awarded by the American Rescue Plan Act to pay eligible public safety personnel costs paid in 2025 under the revenue loss eligible use category of funding.

• A call for a public hearing at 10:30 a.m. May 27 regarding the 2025-2030 Clallam County Homeless Crisis Response and Housing Plan.

• An agreement with Kitsap County for coordinating regional emergency management in Kitsap, Clallam and Jefferson counties.

• A resolution closing two petty cash funds at the Sheriff’s Office.
