EYE ON JEFFERSON: County to consider gun club agreement

The three Jefferson County commissioners will consider a draft agreement revising the license and operating agreement with the Jefferson County Sportsmen’s Association when they meet at 9 a.m. Monday.

The meeting will be in commissioners’ chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

A revised agreement is needed because of changes in operating hours after public concerns were raised about noise, and because the association has applied for a state Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) grant to make safety and sound abatement improvements to the range at 112 Gun Club Road.

To be eligible for the grant, the group must be able to operate the range for at least 10 years after the date of RCO’s last payment. The proposed agreement would extend the term through December 2040.

Staff is requesting direction from commissioners.

Commissioners also will consider accepting a $200,000 grant for opioid response planning from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

On the consent agenda, commissioners will consider approval of activities related to creating a new segment of the Olympic Discovery Trail from Four Corners Road to Anderson Lake Sate Park: a survey contract of $82,010 with Wengler Surveying and Mapping and the setting of a hearing on the plans for the new segment at 10 a.m. June 17.

Also on the consent agenda are:

• A resolution concerning Naylors Creek culvert replacement.

• A resolution calling for the United States to negotiate for the elimination of all nuclear weapons.

• An agreement continuing the Peninsula Regional Transportation Planning Organization.

• A Public Infrastructure Fund grant of $155,000 for engineering, design and permitting of a Quilcene water tank.

• A collective bargaining agreement for the county sheriff’s office’s administrative staff.

Commissioners will consider proclaiming June as Pride Month.
