EYE ON JEFFERSON: Public hearing set on proposed fees for community development

The three Jefferson County commissioners will conduct a public hearing on a proposed fee schedule for the Department of Community Development at a meeting that will begin at 9 a.m. Monday.

The meeting will be in commissioners’ chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

The public hearing will be at 10 a.m. It will be followed at 10:30 a.m. by an executive session to discuss actual litigation.

Items on the consent agenda include:

• Approval of a contract for $6,507,723 for solid waste transport and disposal with Republic Services.

• A resolution re-establishing county cash drawer, petty cash account and revolving fund amounts.

• Approval of a change order for Nordland Construction NW for $14,209 for the Salmon Creek Bridge-West Uncas Road project, bringing the total cost to $980,169.

• Approval of a restrictive covenant to allow property owners adjacent to seven black locust trees at the west corner of Memorial Field to remove them. The property owners will bear the costs.

• An Emergency Management Performance Grant contract to provide an additional $19,500 to maintain the current clerk staffing level.

Port Townsend city

The Port Townsend City Council will consider approving a contract with Peckham & McKinney, Inc., of Roseville, Calif., to conduct the city manager recruitment process when it meets at 6 p.m. Monday.

A joint council and planning commission workshop is set for 6:15 p.m. and a council workshop is planned at 7:30 p.m. All will be in council chambers at historic City Hall, 540 Water St.

At the 6 p.m. meeting, the council also will appoint a representative to the Jefferson County Joint Oversight Board Local Homeless Housing Task Force.

At the 6:15 p.m. meeting, the council and planning commission will review the Rainier Street and Upper Sims Way Subarea Plan.

At the 7:30 p.m. meeting, the council will hear a briefing on the stormwater management plan.

Also meeting Monday, at 3:30 p.m. will be the Library Advisory Board in the first-floor conference room at City Hall, 250 Madison St.

Port of Port Townsend

Port of Port Townsend commissioners will consider the 2019 capital budget when they meet in regular session Wednesday.

The regular session will begin at 1 p.m. in chambers, 333 Benedict St. It will be preceded by a public workshop at 9:30 a.m.

At the morning workshop, the proposed capital budget will be reviewed and commissioners will be updated on the Boat Haven restroom project and a proposed lease at Point Hudson for a state Fish & Wildlife office.

At the afternoon business meeting, in addition to considering adopting the 2019 capital budget, the commissioners will consider a restroom policy on a first reading as well as a marine surveys and assessments lease and a revision of the staff organizational chart.

Chimacum School

The Chimacum School Board is scheduled to consider contracting with an independent firm to conduct a communication and culture audit at a meeting set for 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The meeting is set for Chimacum High School, 91 West Valley Road.

Board member Mike Gould has suggested that the board retain a firm to conduct the audit to “gain a mosaic of the entire institution.

The board also will consider an interlocal agreement concerning the Memorial Field lighting project.

Chimacum schools is one of 12 organizations to pledge money for the $361,729 project, which was finished in December with the help of a $162,450 grant from the state Recreation and Conservation Office.

Chimacum School District pledged a total of $32,000 over four years in annual installments of $8,000, one of which has been paid.

The board also will head an update on a Washington State School Directors’ Association legislative conference.

Peninsula College

Peninsula College trustees are scheduled to meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will be in the Cornaby Center on the Peninsula College campus at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.
