EYE ON JEFFERSON: County to hear comment on proposed trespassing law

Jefferson County commissioners will conduct a public hearing on a proposed trespassing ordinance at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The hearing will be at a meeting that will begin at 9 a.m. in commissioners’ chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

Citing “repeated security incidents” over the past year, the staff recommends establishment of a clear code of conduct within county facilities. The proposed law includes limits on the amount of time any person could be excluded from county facilities, an appeal process and free speech protections, the agenda memo said.

Commissioners will conduct another public hearing at 10 a.m. The hearing will be on a proposed Seamount Estate Community Water System franchise south of Brinnon.

On the consent agenda will be a $34,533 contract with Viking Fence Co., of Bremerton for replacement of the Port Townsend Community Center fence.

Port Townsend city

The Port Townsend City Council will consider adopting a 2019 budget when it meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The special meeting will be in council chambers at historic City Hall, 540 Water St.

City offices will be closed Monday for Veterans Day.

The council also will consider a an increase of 1 percent in the general levy, an increase of 1 percent for Emergency Medical Services Levy and a voter-approved tax levy for the Mountain View Commons capital improvements of $150,000 for the Unlimited Tax General Obligation Bonds.

An executive session is planned on “legal risks of a proposed action or current practice, when public discussion is likely to result in an adverse legal or financial consequence,” and a closed session on collective bargaining or professional negotiations.

Other city committee meetings, which are in conference rooms at City Hall, 250 Madison St., unless otherwise noted are:

• City Council Ad Hoc Committee on Committees — 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, council chambers, 540 Water St.

• PEG Access Coordinating Committee — 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Gael Stuart Building, 1610 Blaine St.

• Public Art Committee — 3 p.m. Wednesday, first-floor conference room.

• Community Task Force on City Manager Recruitment — 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, council chambers, 540 Water St.

• City Council Ad Hoc Committee on Housing — 3 p.m. Thursday, council chambers, 540 Water St.

• Planning Commission — 6:30 p.m., council chambers, 540 Water St., special meeting.

Port of Port Townsend

Port of Port Townsend commissioners will consider 2019 rates on a first reading when they meet in regular session at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The business meeting will be in chambers at 333 Benedict St. It will be preceded by a public workshop at 9:30 a.m.

During the workshop, commissioners will discuss capital plans and grants.

At the business meeting, commissioners also will consider acceptance of the 2017 workyard resurfacing project and a staff organizational chart.

Chimacum School

The Chimacum School Board will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The meeting will be at Chimacum High School, 91 West Valley Road.

No agenda was posted as of Saturday.

Peninsula College

Peninsula College trustees will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

They will meet in the Cornaby Center on the Peninsula College Port Angeles campus at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

On the agenda are standing reports from the Associated Student Council, the Senate, the Peninsula College Faculty Association, classified staff, college president and board.
