EYE ON JEFFERSON: County to continue deliberating shooting range moratorium

The three Jefferson County commissioners will continue deliberations on a moratorium on commercial shooting ranges during the meeting that begins at 9 a.m. Monday.

The meeting will be in commissioners’ chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

No final action is expected to be taken on the moratorium approved in December until a future commissioners’ meeting because of the large amount of public comment received. At a public hearing on Feb. 5, 53 people spoke. More than 100 written comments had been received as of Friday.

At 10 a.m., commissioners will hear a fourth quarter county income report from the state Department of Natural Resources.

Commissioners will consider certifying the county’s inventory as of Dec. 31, 2017.

Commissioners also will consider action to obtain federal funding for emergency repair in 2016 of Upper Hoh Road and an amendment to the Olympic Discovery Trail agreement that adds $100,000 to Phase 1 of the state grant.

Hotel Motel grant funding is expected to be approved for the North Hood Canal Chamber of Commerce, $60,095; Forks Chamber of Commerce, $38,445; Centrum, $20,000; Jefferson County Historical Society, $60,195; Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, $19,468; Quilcene Historical Museum, $23,610; Jefferson County Farmers Market, $4,205; Jefferson County Parks and Recreation, $41,625; Jefferson County Fair Association, $5,060; Gardiner Community Center, $3,220; Olympic Community Action Programs, $141,270; Port Townsend Senior Association, $14,030.

PT City Council

The Port Townsend City Council will discuss a Navy draft environment assessment when it meets in a workshop at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The workshop will be in council chambers at historic City Hall, 540 Water St. An executive session is planned to discuss current or potential litigation.

The council also will discuss draft council correspondence procedures, hear an update on council rules and inbox email review and discuss the Climate Action Committee.

Other city committee meeting are:

• Library Advisory Board — 3:30 p.m. Monday, Library Learning Center/Charles Pink House, 1256 Lawrence St.

• Council Ad Hoc Committee on Stormwater Management Plan — 10 a.m . Wednesday, City Council chambers, 540 Water St.

• City Council Ad Hoc Committee on Housing — 3 p.m. Thursday, council chambers, 540 Water St.

• Angel of Arts Award Ceremony — 5 p.m. Friday, Cotton Building at 607 Water St. A quorum of the city arts committee may attend.

Port Townsend schools

The Port Townsend School Board will discuss strategic planning when it meets at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

The special meeting will be in the Gael Stuart Building, 1610 Blaine St.

The board also will hear reports on the School Board retreat on Feb. 2.

Port of Port Townsend

Port of Port Townsend commissioners will consider a draft resolution on meeting procedures when they meet in regular session at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The regular session will be preceded by a public workshop at 9:30 a.m. Both will be chambers at 333 Benedict St.

During the morning workshop, commissioners will discuss 2018 business practices and policies.

Commissioners also will consider a rate survey scope of work, the 2018 Olympic Peninsula Salmon Derby and special event opportunities in 2018.

Chimacum School

The Chimacum School Board will hear an update on facilities when it meets at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The meeting will be at Chimacum High School, 91 West Valley Road.

The current levy expires on Dec. 31 and the superintendent will present options for facility maintenance and improvements based on input from the facilities committee.

The board also will hear about the athletic league configuration for 2018-19, receive an update on district technology and discuss the model of having School Board members assigned as liaisons for individual schools.

Jefferson Healthcare

Jefferson Healthcare commissioners will hear a report on the state audit when they meet at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The special meeting will be in the Victor J. Dirksen Conference Room on the first floor of 834 Sheridan St.

Commissioners also will hear the administrator’s report and will conduct an executive session. Action may be taken in subsequent public session.

Peninsula College

The Peninsula College Board of Trustees will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will begin at 2 p.m. in the Cornaby Center, room A12, on the Peninsula College campus in Port Angeles.
