The three Jefferson County commissioners will conduct a public hearing on a multi-million-dollar solid waste transport and disposal contract at a meeting that will begin at 9 a.m. Monday.
The meeting will be in commissioners’ chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend. Commissioners issued a request for proposals on Aug. 20 and two firms responded with proposals for hauling and disposing about 20,000 tons of solid waste per year from the county’s transfer station.
The staff has concluded negotiations with the preferred contractor, Republic Services and finalized proposed contract terms.
The estimated cost per year is about $1.4 million. The initial contract would be five years with a potential for three-year extensions.
Commissioners also will consider setting a hearing for 10:15 a.m. Feb. 19 on a proposed ordinance on code of conduct/trespass in county facilities.
At the 1:30 p.m. briefing session, commissioners will hear updates on the WSU Jefferson County Extension 4-H and after-school program and on the Marine Resources Committee.
Items on the consent agenda include:
• Amendment of contracts for county public health home visiting services and the RCO Big Quilcene River Floodplain Key Pieces Agreement.
• A contract with Van Aller Surveying for the South Discovery Road Pavement Preservation Project.
Port Townsend city
The Port Townsend City Council will consider adopting the recommendations of the task force on city manager recruitment when it meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
The meeting will be in council chambers at historic City Hall, 540 Water St.
It also is expected to adopt expectations for a new city manager, direct city staff to recommend an executive recruiter to conduct the recruitment process and adopt a salary range of $125,000 to $163,000 for the position.

Port of Port Townsend
Port of Port Townsend commissioners will consider authorizing the application for funding assistance for the Port Hudson south jetty when they meet at 9 a.m. Monday.
The special meeting will be in chambers, 333 Benedict St.
The resolution authorize the executive director to apply for Jefferson County Public Infrastructure Funding.
Public Utility District
Jefferson County Public Utility District commissioners will discuss federal employees who were furloughed or working without pay when they meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
The meeting will be at 63 Four Corners Road.
They also will discuss a salary survey for non-represented employees and a timberland services agreement.
They will consider resolutions concerning a separation agreement with Larry Dunbar, former general manager, and appointment of an acting manager.
