EYE ON JEFFERSON: County to consider hearing examiner code

The three Jefferson County commissioners will hear an update on a proposed draft hearing examiner code when they meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The meeting, which has been postponed from its usual Monday date because of the Labor Day holiday, will be in commissioners’ chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

The Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has drafted a new hearing examiner code to comply with such recent updates as the Nuisance Ordinance and Commercial Shooting Facility law.

Commissioners are asked to approve a hearing date of Sept. 23.

Items on the consent agenda include:

• Approving $125,950 contract for a modular office facility for the county transfer station.

• Accepting a $237,476 grant from the state Department of Archeology and Historic Preservation for rehabilitation of the historic windows on the second and third floors of the Walker and Jefferson street facades of the Jefferson County Courthouse.

• Approving $14,150 for laserfiche records management.

• Approving a $71,382 intra-agency agreement with the state Department of Ecology for costs of solid waste regulation enforcement. In the agreement, Ecology pays 75 percent, or $53,536, and the county pays 25 percent, or $17,845.

• Approve a $12,426 contract with Oasis Well Drilling for decommissioning three wells in Quilcene.

Port Townsend city

The Port Townsend City Council will consider a contract for police body cameras when it meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The meeting, which has been postponed from its usual Monday date because of the Labor Day holiday, will be in council chambers at historic City Hall, 540 Water St.

The body cameras would replace vehicle recording systems.

The council also will consider final approval of development regulations for the Rainier Street Subarea.

It will consider a purchase agreement for 9.42 acres of land near City Lake to serve as a buffer for the municipal watershed.

Council members will hear updates on letters opposing glyphosate spraying and supporting portable showers for homeless people.

Public Utility District

Jefferson County Public Utility District commissioners will consider a recommendation for opt-out meter action when they meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will be at 63 Four Corners Road.

The PUD’s Citizen Advisory Board (CAB) has recommended that commissioners offer a non-transmitting meter to single phase ratepayers who want to opt out of their current RF transmitting meters.

The cost would be $5 per month until the actual cost is computed, which then would be charged to the customer.

The CAB also has recommended the PUD increase its senior low-income power subsidy from $20 per month to $39.50 per month.

Commissioners also will consider approving the fourth tier water change and the strategic plan.

Fire District 3

Clallam County Fire District 3 commissioners will discuss research on the proposed medicine-assisted treatment center in Sequim when they meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Commissioners will meet at 323 N. Fifth Ave., in Sequim.

They also will consider lieutenant promotion and a 2020 health care application.

The district covers the east side of Clallam County with a small portion in Jefferson County.
