EYE ON JEFFERSON: County to consider comment on Navy training plan

The Jefferson County commissioners will consider commenting on the proposed mitigated determination of non-significance for continued Naval Special Operations Training in Western Washington during an afternoon briefing Tuesday.

The regular meeting will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, postponed from the usual Monday meeting day because of the Martin Luther King Jr., holiday.

The briefing and discussion about the Navy’s training plans will begin after an executive session from 10:45 a.m. to 11:05 a.m. to discuss actual litigation and will be continued after the lunch break at 3 p.m.

At 9:30 a.m.. commissioners will consider a proclamation making Jan. 23 Women’s March Day and another designating Jan. 22 a day to celebrate the United Nations Treaty of the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.

At 9:45 a.m., County Health Officer Dr. Tom Locke and Emergency Manager Director Willie Bence will brief the commissioners on COVID-19. Covid-19 questions may be submitted to contactus@kptz.org.

At 10:30 a.m., commissioners will conduct a hearing to consider adoption of an emergency supplemental 2020 Budget Appropriation for Public Health’s Land Acquisition Fund.

On the consent agenda are resolutions to impose emergency load limits on county roads during inclement weather, to inactivate Fund 628—Section 125 administration fund and transfer residual monies to another fund and to fund management of the Gardiner Community Center for 2020-2022.

Board of Health

The board of health will discuss bills in the state Legislature to regionalize public health when they meet at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

Port Townsend city

The Port Townsend City Council will consider an agreement with Rasier, LLC for transportation network operations when it meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The committee will also hear a recap on the 2020 budget for the comprehensive streets program, an update on the state Highway 20 project and briefing on Work Plan 2020.

Quilcene schools

The Quilcene School Board will discuss the superintendent’s evaluation at a regular board meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Hood Canal Council

The council will discuss funding for the Hood Canal Shellfish Initiative action plan when it meets at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The Hood Canal Coordinating Council is a watershed-based council of governments consisting of Jefferson, Kitsap and Mason Counties and the Port Gamble S’Klallam and Skokomish tribes, it was established in 1985 to address concerns about water quality issues.
