EYE ON JEFFERSON: County sets public hearing on ad valorem tax levies

The commissioners will hear an update on COVID-19 from Dr. Allison Berry, county health officer; hear the third quarter county income report from the state Department of Natural Resources; discuss the 2022 lodging tax recommendations; consider a request from the Port of Port Townsend for the county to vacate the moderate risk waste facility; consider a letter of support for a grant request to remediate property on Old Hadlock Road and will prepare for Thursday’s intergovernmental collaborative group meeting.

Items on the consent agenda include a notice of public hearing on the 2022-2023 county budget at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6; an agreement with the sheriff’s office for $146,000 for residential substance abuse treatment; an agreement with Strategies 360, Inc. to provide legislative liaison services for $118,000; an agreement to fund the Quilcene Complete Streets project with $100,000 from the Public Infrastructure Fund; an agreement with the Fort Worden Public Development Authority to fund employee housing with $150,000 from the Public Infrastructure Fund; and an agreement to fund the boatyard expansion project with $1,000,000 from the Public Infrastructure Fund.

Collaborative Group

The Intergovernmental Collaborative Group of Jefferson County, City of Port Townsend, Port of Port Townsend and Jefferson County Public Utility District plans its final meeting of the year at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Port Townsend city

The Port Townsend City Council will consider a water supply agreement with Port Townsend Paper Corp. when it meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The council also will consider adopting the 2022 budget and a 1 percent tax levy increase.

It will conduct a public hearing related to the Reed Street land exchange; consider authorizing the purchase of a Taser certification bundle, which includes 16 Tasers, for $52,200; consider an update to the city’s comprehensive land use plan; and consider a contract with Financial Consulting Solutions Group, Inc. for $25,000 to update retail water rates.

The Quilcene School Board will meet at 6 p.m. Monday.
