EYE ON JEFFERSON: County board to consider panel to hear tax appeals Monday

()

The three Jefferson County commissioners will consider convening a county board of equalization to hear property tax appeals when they meet Monday.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

An executive session is planned at 10:15 a.m. to discuss potential litigation.

The number of property tax appeal petitions filed this year exceeds 10 percent of those filed last year, which allows convening of the board, county staff said.

The commissioners also will open bids for an estimated $276,197 worth of maintenance on the transfer station on Landfill Road and the moderate-risk waste facility on 10th Street in the Boat Haven marina.

They will consider approving a $100,000 grant for a feasibility study of the proposed Quilcene Community Wastewater System.

The county public infrastructure board grant would reimburse the Port of Port Townsend for work done by Tetra Tech Inc. through December 2017.

The item is on the consent agenda and will not be discussed unless requested by staff or a member of the public.

Also on the consent agenda is an agreement to allocate up to $20,600 for a geotechnical/geological review and analysis of the Undi Road slide and road relocation area in west Jefferson County. State and federal funds would cover 87.5 percent of the amount.

Port Townsend city

The Port Townsend City Council will consider authorizing the city manager to award contracts for the design and construction of the Howard Street Regional Stormwater Project, for which $860,000 has been allocated, when it meets Monday.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at historic City Hall, 540 Water St.

The 2016 budget allocated $860,000 for the project.

The council also will consider on a first reading a revised animal control ordinance to clarify rules. Final approval would come on the second reading.

A companion resolution would designate one off-leash area on the agenda.

The council will consider directing staff to finalize a three-year strategic plan and bring it back to council for possible approval June 20.

The council also will consider appointing Kenneth Clow as acting city manager during City Manager David Timmons’ anticipated absence from May 29 through June 27.

Also on the agenda:

■ Possible approval of $45,000 to upgrade control computers at the city’s wastewater treatment facility.

■ Possible approval of $60,000 for Port Townsend Library materials and processing services.

■ Possible approval of design work on the Port Townsend Visitor Center parking lot.
