EYE ON JEFFERSON: Commissioners to mull inmate health care

The three Jefferson County commissioners will discuss medical care for inmates at the Jefferson County jail at a meeting Monday.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in commissioners’ chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

The commissioners will consider approving an $88,292 contract with Healthcare Delivery Systems to provide health care to inmates.

The one-year contract would automatically renew for the next four years unless either of the parties gives notice otherwise.

At 10 am., commissioners will open bids for publication of legal notices.

Items on the consent agenda include:

■ A $7,340 agreement with the Feiro Marine Life Center of Port Angeles for education programs in Jefferson, western Clallam and Grays Harbor counties. Funding is provided by the state.

■ A $3,900 agreement with Appraisal Group of the Northwest for consultant services. Funding is provided by the state.

■ Agreements to allocate $115,000 for the emergency repair of Upper Hoh Road and $96,250 for Oil City Road. Federal funding has been secured.

■ An agreement to allocate $15,286 for Quilcene sports court resurfacing.

At 1:30 p.m., commissioners will be briefed on Senate Bill 5276, which concerns refunds of property taxes paid as a result of manifest errors in descriptions of property.

Port Townsend city

The Port Townsend City Council will discuss the revision of the city’s animal control code at a workshop Monday.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 in chambers, 540 Water St.

One of the main areas of discussion will be whether to require dogs to be on leash when off the property of their owners.

The General Services and Special Projects Committee recommended that this be a requirement and to eliminate the current policy of allowing a dog to be off leash if it is under voice control.

Other city committee meetings, which are at City Hall, 250 Madison St., unless otherwise noted, are:

■ Historic Preservation Committee — 3 p.m. Tuesday, first-floor conference room; special meeting.

■ City Council General Services & Special Projects Committee — 4 p.m. Tuesday, third-floor conference room, to discuss charter amendments for the Fort Worden Lifelong Learning Center Public Development Authority.

■ Planning Commission — 6:30 p.m. Thursday, council chambers at 540 Water St.; special meeting to discuss a Growth Management Act component.

Port Townsend schools

The Port Townsend School Board will discuss the process for naming a new elementary school when it meets Monday.

The study session will be at 6 p.m. in the library at Port Townsend High School, 1500 Van Ness St.

It will be preceded by a retreat at 2:30 p.m. in the Gael Stuart Building, 1610 Blaine St. The board will review self-assessment results.

At the evening session, the board will consider policies on service animals in school, student conduct, classroom management and nutrition and fitness.

Jefferson Healthcare

Jefferson Healthcare commissioners will hold a special meeting Tuesday to review and possibly revise the hospital’s governance policies and bylaws.

The meeting will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the third-floor conference room, 2500 W. Sims Way.

The board will conduct its regular meeting at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the same location, at which time it will hear a presentation about diagnostic imaging.

Jefferson Transit

Jefferson Transit board members will consider amending its 2016 capital budget when it meets Tuesday.

The board will meet at 1:30 p.m. at the transit facility at 63 Four Corners Road.

It also will discuss its citizen advisory committee.

Jefferson PUD

Jefferson County Public Utility District commissioners will discuss filling a public relations/human resources position when they meet Tuesday.

The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. at 250 Chimacum Road, Port Hadlock.
