EYE ON JEFFERSON: Commissioners plan hearing on ad valorem taxes

Jefferson County commissioners will conduct a public hearing on 2018 ad valorem taxes at 10 a.m. Monday.

The commissioners’ meeting will begin at 9 a.m. at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

After the hearing, commissioners will consider increasing the general fund levy, road levy, conservation futures levy and diversion of road levy for traffic law enforcement. They also will consider setting real and personal property levy and refund amounts.

The proposed 2018 budget will be available on the county website at www.co.jefferson.wa.us beginning Monday.

Written testimony will be accepted up to a 10 a.m. hearing Dec. 4. Oral testimony will be taken at the hearing.

On Monday, commissioners also will conduct a hearing on a proposed ordinance regarding emergency alarm systems.

During the 1:30 p.m. county administrator briefing, they will hear about West Jefferson County invasive species and job projects, the six-year transportation improvement program and discuss a possible route of the Olympic Discovery Trail through Anderson Lake State Park.

At 6 p.m. Tuesday, commissioners will host a special community outreach meeting at the Chimacum Fire Hall, 9193 Rhody Drive, to review snapshots of county news and the budget.

The courthouse will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Port Townsend city

The Port Townsend City Council will host a public hearing on an ordinance adopting the budget for Port Townsend for the fiscal year ending Dec. 31, 2018, when it meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The meeting will be in council chambers at historic City Hall, 540 Water St.

Before its regular agenda, the council will meet in executive session to review the performance of a public employee.

Other items on the agenda include:

• An ordinance amending the capital surcharge on water rates, amending the municipal code and establishing an effective date.

• The appointment of Gee Heckscher (Position 5), Jane Kilburn (Position 6), Lela Hilton (Position 7), Todd Hutton (Position 9) and Harold Anderson (Position 11) to the Fort Worden Lifelong Learning Center Public Development Authority board.

• A resolution adopting a policy for banner, readerboard and bulletin board use at city facilities.

The Historic Preservation Committee will meet from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday in the third-floor conference room at City Hall, 250 Madison St.. This will be a special meeting.

Thursday’s Port Townsend Planning Commission meeting has been canceled.

City offices will be closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Port of Port Townsend

Port of Port Townsend commissioners will discuss a decision summary for the south Point Hudson jetty when they meet in regular session. The meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

The session will begin at 5:30 p.m. in chambers, 333 Benedict St.

The port also will talk budget deliberations and 2018 resolutions before meeting in executive session.

Jefferson PUD

Jefferson County Public Utility District commissioners will discuss a declaration of emergency for Nov. 13-14 when they meet at 5 p.m. Monday.

The meeting will be at 63 Four Corners Road, Port Townsend.

Also discussed will be an interlocal agreement for radios with Mason County, an update from consultant Mycoff, an update from TCF on their study concerning future PUD facility requirements and options, and a tree bid for Paradise Bay/Shine.

PUD commissioners will go into executive session to discuss with legal counsel representing the agency matters relating to agency enforcement actions, or to discuss litigation or potential litigation to which the agency, the governing body or a member acting in an official capacity is or is likely to become a party.

PUD executive ­committee

The Fort Worden Public Development Authority Executive Committee will discuss leadership retreat outcomes, the budget process and council action on board-nominating committee recommendations when it meets at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

The meeting will be in Building 297 at Fort Worden, 200 Battery Way.

Port Townsend schools

The superintendent and board of director will continue attending the Washington State School Directors Association Conference in Bellevue through today.

Chimacum School Board

The Chimacum School Board will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The meeting will be at Chimacum High School, 91 West Valley Road.

An agenda was not available as of Saturday.
