EYE ON JEFFERSON: Commissioners eye lodging taxes fund grants

The three Jefferson County commissioners will consider allocating lodging tax funds to the Jefferson County Historical Society and the county Tourism Coordinating Council when it meets Monday.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in commissioners’ chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

The amount to be considered for the Tourism Coordinating Council is $120,000.

The historical society will be considered for two grants: one of $58,447 to operate museums and other activities, and another for $59,500 to run the visitor center.

The Port Townsend Senior Association will be considered for a $13,222 community services grant.

All items are on the consent agenda, which also includes:

■ A two-year contract with Cher West-Albright to serve as caretaker for Gibbs Lake County Park.

■ A purchase and sale agreement with Albina Asphalt of Vancouver, Wash., for $257,750 for liquid asphalt products.

■ A $55,000 contract with Bruch and Bruch Construction Inc. of Port Angeles for Undie Road repair.

■ An interlocal agreement for the Hood Canal Regional Septic Loan Program.

■ A $30,715 allocation to Jefferson County Superior Court and $15,826 to Jefferson County District Court from the mental health/substance abuse sales tax fund.

Port Townsend city

The Port Townsend City Council will discuss its strategic plan at a workshop meeting Monday.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at historic City Hall, 540 Water St.

During the meeting, the council will review 49 agenda bills linked to the strategic plan.

The council also will examine the advisory board nomination process.

Council office hours, during which members of the public can discuss any topic with a member of the City Council, take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday in the mayor’s office.

Port Townsend ­Planning Commission

The Port Townsend Planning Commission will discuss the periodic update of the Growth Management Act when it meets Thursday.

The meeting will be from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in council chambers at 540 Water St.

Port of Port Townsend

Port of Port Townsend commissioners will consider professional services contracts when they meet Wednesday.

The regular meeting will begin at 1 p.m. in chambers, 333 Benedict St. It will be preceded by a 9:30 a.m. workshop in the same place.

Commissioners will consider agreements with Associate Development Organization, Windridge Solutions and MW Hillman Consulting.

Discussion at the morning workshop is planned with the Shipwright’s Co-op regarding port operations.

Commissioners also will discuss the Point Hudson breakwater project and marine habitat restoration. Possible changes to the permitting process also will be discussed.

Port Townsend schools

The Port Townsend School Board will consider possible amendments to the school calendar when it meets Monday.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Gael Stuart Building, 1610 Blaine St.

The board will discuss an upcoming East Jefferson Partnership Meeting, set for 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. March 2 in the Chimacum High School library, and hear an update from the Maritime Discovery Schools Committee.

Chimacum schools

The Chimacum School Board will hear about Tuesday’s results of the bond election when it meets Wednesday.

The board will meet at 6 p.m. in the library at the high school at 91 West Valley Road

The Chimacum School District is requesting voters approve a $29.1 million bond in Tuesday’s special election.

The board also will consider policies on use of school facilities, video cameras on school buses and Internet safety.
