EYE ON JEFFERSON: Commissioners expected to extend interim director’s contract Monday

The three Jefferson County commissioners are expected to extend David Goldsmith’s contract as interim director of the Department of Community Development when they meet Monday.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in commissioners’ chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

The extension would be through June 20. It would be the second extension of the $9,600-per-month contract for Goldsmith, who was named a temporary replacement for retired Director Carl Smith in September.

The item is on the consent agenda and will not be discussed unless requested by a member of the public or a county employee.

Additional items on the consent agenda include:

■ Allocating $10,000 from lodging tax revenue to the Olympic Culinary Loop.

■ Allocating $53,915 for school nursing services in the Chimacum School District. Expense would be matched by revenue.

■ Allocating $600 to Jefferson County Public Health for the Infant Toddler Consultation Project. Funding is from the Department of Health and Human Services.

■ Allocating $791,447 and $238,000 in two contracts for Upper Hoh Road repair. Construction is funded by the Federal Highway Administration.

■ Acceptance of $788,800 from the Salmon Recovery Funding Board for Salmon Creek Bridge replacement.

Port Townsend city

The Port Townsend City Council will discuss amendments to the marijuana code at a workshop Monday.

The workshop will begin at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at historic City Hall, 540 Water St.

The council will discuss code amendments to accommodate state policy that allows medical and recreational marijuana to be sold in the same location.

No action will be taken.

Code changes are expected to be in place by the end of the year.

The council also will hear a report on emergency preparedness.

On Wednesday, a quorum of council members or planning commissioners may attend a state Department of Commerce “Short Course on Local Planning” from 6:15 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. in the Cotton Building, 607 Water St. No business will be conducted.

Council office hours, during which members of the public can discuss any topic with a member of the City Council, take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday in the mayor’s office at historic City Hall, 540 Water St.

Port Townsend ­Planning Commission

The Port Townsend Planning Commission will discuss temporary encampments when it meets Thursday.

The commission will meet at 6:30 p.m. in City Council chambers at historic City Hall, 540 Water St.

Commissioners also will discuss capital facilities and utilities elements of the comprehensive plan as well as commercial kitchens and food hubs.

Port Townsend schools

The Port Townsend School Board will conduct a special meeting to review applicants for superintendent Monday morning and consider a contract for construction of a new school that evening.

The morning meeting will begin at 11 a.m. in the Gael Stuart Building, 1610 Blaine St.

The meeting will begin with the executive session but will be followed by an open session where the finalists could be publicly disclosed.

The evening meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the same place.

The contract would be for construction of a Grant Street School replacement.

Chimacum schools

The Chimacum School Board will hear a report from Superintendent Rick Thompson about potential next steps after the recent bond issue failure when it meets Wednesday.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the high school library, 91 West Valley Road.

Port of Port Townsend

Port of Port Townsend commissioners are expected to announce their choice of a new executive director during the Monday afternoon meeting.

The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. at 333 Benedict St. It will be preceded by a 9:30 a.m. workshop meeting in the same location.

At the morning meeting, commissioners will discuss a proposal of construction of up to three residential units on property next to the maintenance shop at the west end of the boatyard.

It also will conduct an executive session to discuss qualifications for public employment.

At the afternoon meeting, in addition to the executive director position, commissioners will consider a commission code of conduct and leases with Fine Yacht Interiors and Port Townsend Brewing Co.

They will consider a boatyard feasibility request for quotation.

Peninsula College

Peninsula College trustees will meet in Port Townsend on Tuesday.

The meeting will be at 2 p.m. at the Port Townsend branch of the college at Fort Worden State Park, 298 Battery Way.
