EYE ON JEFFERSON: Commission to approve grant applications

The three Jefferson County commissioners will consider approval of a draft resolution authorizing it to legally bind the county with respect to three applications for grant assistance when they meet at 9 a.m. Monday.

The meeting will be in commissioners’ chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

Commissioners seek grant assistance from the state Recreation & Conversation Office for the Lower Big Quilcene Floodplain Acquisition, Dosewallips R Powerlines and Design and Spruce Canyon to South Fork Hoh River Planning projects.

Items on the consent agenda include:

• A $80,814 additional agreement for a 2018-20 consolidated contract with Jefferson County Public Health.

• A $90,992.80 agreement for local solid waste financial assistance with county Environmental Public Health.

• A water rights application and ownership of the Quilcene Community Well owned by the county to be assigned to county Public Utilities District No. 1.

• An agreement amendment for a community services grant funding to include the use of vacant northeast bay of the Brinnon Shop Building for supply storage as a resource for south county residents.

A briefing session will include a proclamation declaring the week of Aug. 6 as Jefferson County Employee Recognition Week.

Commissioners will also convene for two executive sessions with the county administrator and chief civil deputy prosecuting attorney regarding both actual and potential litigation.

PT City Council

The Port Townsend City Council will adopt an ordinance for a multi-family tax exemption program, designating residential target areas when it meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The meeting will be in council chambers at historic City Hall, 540 Water St.

Also on the budget is a first reading of an ordinance extending the increase in utility tax for park maintenance workers, awarding a contract for sewer line replacement and installation of maintenance holes in the city wastewater collection system and a resolution setting a city manager recruiting process.

Other city committee meetings, which are in conference rooms at City Hall, 250 Madison St., unless otherwise noted are:

• Historic Preservation Committee, 3 p.m. Tuesday, third-floor conference room.

• Port Townsend Planning Commission, 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, City Hall Council Chambers, 540 Water St. second-floor conference room.

• Ad Hoc Committee on Housing, 3 p.m. Thursday, City Hall Council Chambers, 540 Water St. second-floor conference room.

County Parks & Rec

Jefferson County Parks & Recreation Advisory Board members will interview JACPRAB District No. 1 candidate Vern Bessey when they meet Wednesday.

The meeting will be conducted at Public Works’ office, 623 Sheridan St., at 11 a.m.

Also on the agenda is a 30-minute presentation by Kim Danner about the Kul Kah Han Native Plant Gardens and a recommendation to reappoint JCPRAB members Malloree Weinheimer, Greg Graves, Kim Cote and Jon Cooke.

Port of Port Townsend

Port of Port Townsend commissioners will review the leasing policy advisory committee process when they meet in regular session Wednesday.

The regular session will begin at 1 p.m. in chambers, 333 Benedict St.

Commissioners will also convene for an executive session to review the performance of a public employee.

The Wednesday, Aug. 8 and Tuesday, Aug. 14 public workshops have been cancelled.

Jefferson PUD

Jefferson County Public Utilities District commissioners will discuss Shine Plat Local Utilities District when they meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will be at 63 Four Corners Road in the Jefferson County Transit building.

They also will hear a chief financial officer report, approve vouchers and take action on the contract bidding list addition.

Chimacum School Board

The Chimacum School Board will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The meeting will be at Chimacum High School, 91 West Valley Road.

The Superintendent will report results from the August 7 capital levy vote. These will not be the official results.

On July 11, the board authorized the formation of a task force to develop solutions to declining enrollment. The superintendent will discuss committee timelines, participants, and agenda topics.

The superintendent will provide follow up information to improve district curb appeal as part of the marketing plan.

Sequim School Board

The Sequim School District will convene for a regular meeting at 6 p.m. Monday.

The board will meet at 503 N. Sequim Ave.

The board will also adopt a resolution for its 2018-2019 for its budget adoption following a public hearing.

Before the meeting, the board will meet from 5 p.m. to 5:50 p.m. for a budget workshop.

The board may recess into executive session to discuss the performance of a public employee.
