EYE ON CLALLAM: Hearing on restoration of 8.4% sales tax set for Tuesday with county commissioners

The three Clallam County commissioners will hold a public hearing on the restoration of an 8.4 percent sales tax Tuesday.

The hearing will begin shortly after 10:30 a.m. in the commissioners’ boardroom (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Commissioners have already notified the state Department of Revenue that the 0.2 percent tax holiday will sunset April 1.

The hearing is for a proposed ordinance that would make the action official.

Commissioners will hold their normal business meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Agenda items include:

■   An invitation for bids due March 1 for the Carlsborg sewer project.

■   An agreement with the Olympic Peninsula Visitor Bureau for tourism services.

■   A contract amendment with the Clallam County Prosecutors’ Association removing chief criminal and chief civil deputy positions from the bargaining unit while conferring third-party beneficiary rights.

■   An agreement with Kitsap, Jefferson and Mason counties and the Kitsap Public Health Division for the Hood Canal regional septic loan program.

■   An agreement to purchase 0.02 acres of land for the Lower Elwha Road reconstruction project.

■   An agreement with West End Outreach Services for behavioral health services to low-income individuals or families and juveniles involved in the justice system.

■   An agreement with First Step Family Support Center for the Parents as Teachers Program.

■   A resolution re-establishing and modifying revolving, petty cash and change funds for the Health and Human Services Department.

■   A resolution appointing a member to the

Solid Waste Advisory Committee.

■   A resolution establishing a position in support of proposed Crescent School District levies.

■   A resolution adopting a $17,000 supplemental budget appropriation for Health and Human Services, Environmental Health.

■   A resolution adopting debatable budget emergencies for the Sheriff’s Office.

■   Recognition of Kathie Kreider for more than 25 years of service.

Commissioners will discuss several major issues in their work session at 9 a.m. Monday.

Discussion items include:

■   The pending expiration of a hearing examiner contract.

■   An Opportunity Fund board recommendation to fund the replacement of the natatorium air handler system for the Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center.

■   An agreement

with the city of Port Angeles for maintenance, repair

and operation of storm drainage facilities for the Clallam County Courthouse.

■   A request to hire a code compliance officer.

■   An overview of the role of the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Clallam Transit

The Clallam Transit board will elect officers and consider board appointments when it meets Monday.

The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. at the Clallam Transit System headquarters at 830 W. Lauridsen Blvd.

Other action items include consideration of an easement with the city of Sequim for the Sequim Civic Center and authorization to purchase vanpool vehicles.

The board also will present Morningside President and Chief Executive Officer Jim Larson with an outstanding employer award for 2015 and commendation to administrative services assistant Terri Hill as employee of the quarter for the fourth quarter of 2015.

Clallam PUD

Clallam County Public Utility District commissioners will consider a contract completion for furnishings for new district facilities Monday.

The meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Lake Crescent Boardroom at the Carlsborg main office, located at 104 Hooker Road.

Other agenda

items include contractor prequalifications, staff reports and customary business.
